We want every guest to feel completely at home from the moment they arrive, while still enjoying the award-winning experience for which we are known. A Unique Bird Watching Experience

The Fynbos Ridge Nature Reserve is one of Plett’s best kept secrets. We’ve spent years nurturing our indigenous fynbos gardens to create a safe haven for a range of avian critters. Around 90 bird species have been sighted around the property, including the Knysna turaco, fish eagles, and the sugarbird – the unofficial ambassador of Fynbos Ridge and the inspiration behind our logo.

Birders will have a wonderful time exploring the trails armed with their bird books and cameras, enjoying unique sightings of helmeted guinea fowl roaming the lawns, Cape Bou-Bous fluttering about, and even the rare Knysna woodpecker and Victorin’s scrub warbler darting between the shrubs. Our fynbos gardens overflow in and around the cottages, so even if you’re not an avid birdwatcher, you can simply enjoy the beauty of these amazing creatures from the accommodation’s balconies and verandas.

“We love our very wild garden because it’s all indigenous and we let it do its own thing. There is always something special blooming all year round. So, no matter what time of the year you choose to visit Fynbos Ridge, there’s always a beautiful surprise to discover,” says Fynbos Ridge owner Liz.

Breakfast with an Organic Twist

There’s something special about starting the day with a delicious breakfast made with fresh ingredients. At Fynbos Ridge, we believe that good food is an essential part of a memorable stay. Fresh herbs and vegetables from our organic gardens make their way into many of our dishes, bringing seasonal flavours to your breakfast experience. We want only the best for our guests to ensure you’re ready to tackle a day of exploring Plettenberg Bay, so expect freshly baked breads, croissants, pancakes and the very best free range eggs. While our self-catering guests have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast when staying at our Plett accommodation, you are also more than welcome to pick your own salads on the days that you choose to make something privately.

A Commitment to Conservation

Preserving the natural beauty of Plettenberg Bay is something we take seriously. We’ve spent years restoring the indigenous fynbos on the property to its natural state through careful management, including a controlled burning schedule and the ongoing removal of invasive alien species. In recognition of our efforts, in 2001, Fynbos Ridge was proclaimed a private nature by the Western Cape Nature Conservation Board.

Today, our Plett accommodation is home to an array of wildlife, including birds, butterflies and small mammals which has helped to create a thriving ecosystem that enhances our guests’ experience. To minimise our environmental footprint and conserve natural resources, we have implemented several sustainable practices, including:

  • Landscaping with indigenous vegetation
  • Solar water heating
  • Our own biological sewage treatment plant
  • The use of biodegradable cleaning products
  • Recycling initiatives
  • Conserving rainwater

By combining thoughtful luxury with responsible stewardship, we strive to protect this special corner of the Garden Route for generations to come.
